Description
This is a portrait of Chief Joseph of the Nez Perce tribe , formerly of northwest America. Chief Joseph's tribal name when born was , "Thunder Down The Mountain". He was born in 1840 in the Walla Walla Valley of the Oregon Territory and died at Colville Reservation , Washington state , in September of 1904. He made an unsuccessful escape with his followers into Canada when white people were settling in their tribal lands. He was forced to surrender his people to General Nelson Miles on October 5 , 1877 and all were sent to a small reservation in Oklahoma while half the tribe sadly died on the way. This image was taken by Edward S Curtis with the early daguerreotype dark tinted process. I have converted the original image into this contemporary black and white copy for easier viewing of the detail. I used my Windows 10 Legacy system to sharpen and lighten the contrast ,for the improvement. NOTE: The FAA logo will not appear on your ordered image or object.
