Description
Today, on this Christmas Eve Day , I drove to my hometown county and found many Sandhill Cranes , Grus canadensis , foraging for dropped corn in harvested fields. They often stand in field puddles and small ponds where they find softened tidbits to eat. I was lucky to have a farmers field path to pull into off the highway and photograph at leisure. It was a misty ,cloudy day after the morning fog lifted, so I am glad I wore a sweatshirt, heavy coat and cap. There were about 200 to 250 Cranes spread out into smaller groups , before me. This Crane trio was standing in mud and looking for eats. I took the distance image with my little Fuji Finepix S2000HD digital camera in lens zooming mode. A fine work of these beautiful birds Rory!

Thank you very much, Stuart! There are supposed to be thousands just west of me on an early Spring return north.
